W09P09 - Blow Out, Still a lot to learn

About 10 days ago I was made aware of a picture contest for a specific technique called "Blow Out". This consists of basically over exposing the subject so it strongly tends towards white. As I had never made that (at least not on purpose...), I decided to give it a try. This picture was my best shot, and I was quite happy with it, till I saw the other "contesters"... Wow... I still have a lot to learn... If you are interested, the results are here: http://gizmodo.com/5477376/122-brilliant-and-blinding-blow-outs

Anyway, this was something new, I had fun doing it and definitelly I'll try again one other day.

This picture was taken with my T1i, 50mm fixed lens, a 200W  external flash with white umbrella. 1/80s, f/3.5, ISO 100. Photo taken on Raw, adjustments on Canon Digital Photo Professional.

Enjoy!

W08P08 - The Sun is out there!

This week's picture is one I was willing to make for a long time... the perfect moment with the sun hiding behind the clouds, the light rays drawing the sky, and finally God blessed me with this moment...

I spotted the landscape from our house's dinning room, and actually had to get out on the street to find this angle. Personally, even the cell tower composed well...

It was made with my Canon T1i, 1/1000s, f/8.0, ISO 100. Used my 28-135mm canon lens all opened on the 28mm side (45mm equivalent on a 35mm camera)

Hope you like it, I definitely enjoyed making it!

W07P07 - It's Raining Again!

This weak, once again, very warm and rainy days... One of these days I looked at the window and noticed the rain hitting the top of a chimney.

I then tried to make a picture seeking a middle-point of freezing the drops hitting the chimney (high speed) and showing the raindrops "moving" (slow shutter), risking failing on both.... personally, I found it "interesting" :)

Let me know your thoughts...

It was taken on the T1i, 1/200s, f/5.0, ISO400 with my 70-300mm lenses at 225 (357mm equivalent on a 35mm camera).

W06P06 - Harder then I imagined...

I spent last week on a business travel to Texas, and this represented very long hours, under a less than optimal weather... In other words, no photos at all!!!!
My only chance arrived when I had to drive for about 3 hours from Austin to Dallas, and after 6 rainy days there was some blue on the sky.

So I decided to make a interesting exercise: I left my camera on the passenger's seat, at the widest angle and on Landscape auto mode (yes... auto mode...) and started to make very instinctive pictures, while driving. No exposure correction, not even looking at the viewfinder (I was driving after all...).

I ended up with about 20-30 pictures, from which I selected this one. It was on auto, what set the camera at f/4.0, 1/800s, ISO 800. And I used my Canon S5iS, some cropping and corrections on Picasa.

Hope you like it!
