W30P30 - The Moon!!!!

Wow!!! I can’t believe I’m back on track! Week 30, Picture 30!!!!! And to mark this special occasion, here comes a very classic picture, but  one I had never really managed doing. The Full Moon!!!!

In order to get the right exposure I used a spot meeting setup on my camera. I also used the 300mm tele at its max, with IS on. Otherwise it would be quite complex to hold the camera correctly… It was late in the night (around 9:30PM) so the moon was very high in the sky. I had to really look up to frame it.

With these adjustments I ended up setting my camera at 1/100s, f/8.0, ISO 100. Looking at it now, I probably would have reduced the aperture a bit compensating on ISO so I could get a slightly better focus (by the way, I did it manually. AF wasn’t able to do it well). Anyway I really enjoyed the result, mostly the details I got on the south part of the moon and all the meteor holes you can see around it. I’ll probably try it again one day; I’ll share the results.

Small contrast and cropping done on Picasa.

By the way, this will be my last post in english... I'm following my readers and basically all of them are in Brazil, so I'll make things easier for them. If there is anyone still willing to read it in English, please, let m know and I'll see how to make it work. Thank you ALL!

W30P29 - Light and wires

I'm not sure why this scene called my attention so hard. Maybe this is my engineering side :)

Anyway, this was taken also in Campos do Jordão, on the old part of the city. I really liked the contrast of the old light and all the wires that have been added during the last decades. In a matter of fact, one thing really caught my attention while I was walking in that city. How visually polluted it is, how hard it is to find a clean landscape, or construction. Electricity wires are everywhere, making what would have been great views into a mess of lines coming up and down.

This one was made with my T1i, 1/160s, f/8.0, ISO400. B&W conversion and contrast adjustments done on Picasa.

W30P28 - Retirement!

This is a picture I took while walking on Campos do Jordão downtown. Quite a bucolic scene :)

Taken with the T1i, at 1/60s, f/8.0, ISO400. Some editing, B&W conversion with Photoshop Elements. Tinting and soft focus done on Picasa.

W30P27 - Moon in Campos de Jordão

Vacations Time! And we had the opportunity to spend some days in Campos de Jordão. Great family time, good resting and sure, pictures...

This first one was taken right after dawn, and I really liked the framing the tree created around the moon. Some others will follow this one, keep checking this blog!

Taken with the Canon T1i, at 1/100s, f/11.0 and ISO 400. Used my big tele and some contrast adjustments, additional cropping done on Picasa.

W29P26 - New flowers!

Hi! Our backyard just went over an "Extreme Makeover" event :) There goes the grass, here comes new flowers, palm trees and wood. It really went great, and now I have a full new set of scenes to picture!

Today I had some time to capture 2 new fellow flowers, I was told they are from the ochidea realm, but I'll tell you now: I have no idea how they are called, all I know is that they look great on the pictures :)

For these 2 I used a medium aperture, f/9.0, so some of the wood details would come up, and as they were taken at the strongest sun time, I used a golden reflector to cast the shadows out. Sure, this made colors too strong, so I made a small saturation reduction as well. ISO 100, speed high enough to give me the right exposure.

W29P24 - My window view

This is what I can see from my house's window :)

You probably noticed, I'm not being able to spend much time outside latelly, I'm having to improvise...

Nothing fancy on the picture, just found the clouds formation interesting. Some hard cropping so I was able to remove some houses that would normaly be part of the scene.

Done on my T1i.
